Swap the February Snow for Some February Sunbathing!
February in the UK is, without doubt, utterly miserable. It’s cold and miserable. And, of course, if we get a single flake of snow, everything comes to a standstill and the news headlines for the following week are all populated with overly-dramatised accounts of ‘the worst snow ever in the history of the world!’
If that’s not your bag, then you might want to think about escaping the UK for a week or two. But where’s hot in February for sun seekers?
Just a 4 and a half hour flight and you can be taking advantage of comparably very pleasant temperatures. Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, is a popular destination with British tourists all year round. Although it doesn’t get absolutely boiling until the sumer months, it’s never really cold either! In February, the average temperature is a perfectly manageable 16 degrees Celsius, though it’s not uncommon for it to get as warm as 20 degrees. You can bag pretty cheap flights to Tenerife from loads of airlines and even great value package holidays, providing you manage to miss the February half term!
Ah, this place is Heaven on Earth! I’ve been in April and May before, when it’s really hot. But even in February, you’ll get great temperatures and dry weather. On average, you can expect around 23 degrees Celsius in Varadero, perfect for taking advantage of that pure white beach and crystal clear sea. It’s around a 10 hour flight to get there though, so not exactly located for a short break!
Cancun, Mexico, is another location that really isn’t positioned for very short stays for UK tourists. Again, it will take around 10 hours to get there by plane. But it is hot in February! It’s around the same temperature, on average, as Varadero in Cuba… some 23 degrees Celsius. It can, however, reach 26 or 27. Again, you’ll obviously get the best prices on February breaks if you can avoid the kids’ half term!
A little closer to home again, this time. The flight time to Gambia from the UK is about 5 hours and 45 minutes. So it’s really not too long haul at all. However, the temperatures would have you believe you were on the other side of the planet. In February, Gambia’s average temperature is a simply stunning 26 degrees Celsius and it’s not uncommon for it to head closer to 30 on some days. You can pick up really great value flights to Gambia and accommodation is low cost.
If you’re prepared to travel for temperatures that sizzle, then get yourself to Phuket, Thailand. Temperatures here average a sizzling 28 degrees Celsius in February. This is perfect for sun seekers, but you will have to be prepared to travel. Thailand holidays are very much long haul. The flight time from the UK is over 12 hours. But it’s well worth it if you want scorching sunshine and stunning white beaches while everyone back home shivers in the slush!
